My counseling service is a positive, affirmative, and exciting transformation process that, when done properly, is a satisfying and growth-producing for all involved. It is a guided practical process by which bad behavioral and emotional habits are identified, discussed, and corrected. In addition, I assist parents toward learning successful behaviors that are missing from their current parenting repertoire. My approach is usually quite directive, prescriptive, and generally short-term. There is little if any probing of parents’ childhood experiences (usually discourages it, in fact). I presumes that family stumbling blocks, or bad habits, are usually not “psychological” in nature. I helps parents realize the nonproductive, self-defeating nature of interactions. The emphasis of my counseling approach is on helping family members change behavior. It assigns “key player” status to certain (usually adult) family members, thus assigning key responsibility for problem resolution to those individuals. I NEVER engage in diagnosis, but may make referral to diagnosing professional when that seems appropriate. My counseling service is based on commonsense, biblical principles, and the traditional child-rearing paradigm.
