Dr. Gilbert graduated from Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts, magna cu laude, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. After graduating the New York University Bellevue Medical Center School of Medicine, he was selected to remain at that institution where he completed a Surgery internship and Orthopaedic Surgery residency.At NYU, Dr. Gilbert distinguished himself by receiving the highest score on the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination and by being awarded the Chief Residency position. During that residency, Dr. Gilbert worked with world-famous hand surgeons and developed a love and admiration for the wondrous complexity of the anatomy and function of the hand.
