You can read more about the history of the Oakland Police Department here: Department History Neighborhood Watch Program Continues to Expand in Oakland Posted on: July 16, 2010, 8: 52 am The Neighborhood Watch Program in the Town of Oakland continues to expand. As "Neighborhood Watch" remains the most successful crime prevention program worldwide, the Oakland Police Department has been encouraging their citizens to become more actively involved. Practicing crime prevention techniques by reporting crime and suspicious activity and working closely with the officers have helped to identify, deter and reduce crime within the community. Citizens are making the effort to take control back from the criminals. Through the dedicated commitment of the Oakland Police Department and the concerned citizens of Oakland, together we have been making a significant impact on crime by implementing Community Oriented Policing as our primary way to conduct business. Our citizens are becoming more wise to crime. During the last year, Winter's Landing and John's Landing subdivisions in Oakland met very specific requirements of the Neighborhood Watch Program. Most recently the Trailside Station neighborhood met all organizational requirements. Seen in the photo to the left as they appear next to one of four newly installed Neighborhood Watch signs are Trailside Station residents Keith Vena and Jose Moux with Oakland Officer Steve Valente, coordinator of the program. We congratulate each of these neighborhoods for their efforts and partnership with the Oakland Police Department and if you are a criminal planning to commit a crime in one of their neighborhoods, beware of trained citizens who will be watching and reporting your illegal activity.
