Founded in 2003, the Global Footprint Network is a nonprofit organization that advances the scientific rigor and practical applications of the Ecological Footprint, which is a tool that quantifies human demand on nature. The organization builds a network of practitioners and institutions working to expand awareness and use of the Ecological Footprint. The Global Footprint Network also serves individuals through newsletters, Web sites, trainings and media campaigns. The organization works with government agencies, nonprofit organizations and businesses on various strategic projects. In addition, it publishes an e-mail newsletter, Footprint Network. The organization has partnerships with Best Foot Forward, the Stockholm Environment Institute and Pictet Asset Management. The Global Footprint Network is headquartered in Oakland, Calif.
