Disability Rights California, formerly known as Protection and Advocacy, provides advocacy services for people with disabilities in California. The agency offers housing, educational, health care, technology, transportation, and individual and family support services. It files lawsuits on behalf of disabled individuals and groups. Disability Rights California investigates charges of abuse and neglect, as well as builds peer and self-advocacy groups. The agency has legal offices in Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento, Calif. Its investigations unit looks into reports of abuse and neglect in state hospitals and in other facilities. Disability Rights California also provides technical assistance and training for county advocates. The agency maintains a location in Oakland, Calif.
