General Info
Dr. John Gorski grew up in the Metro-Detroit area. He graduated with honors from Michigan State University Medical School and was nominated for the AOA medical honors society. He then completed his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Saint Louis University, a level 1 trauma center serving the St. Louis area. After his residency, he gained extensive experience in hand and microvascular surgery while attending his Hand Surgery Fellowship at the University of Connecticut, studying under the auspice of Dr. Kirk Watson and Duffield Ashmead IV. His fellowship incuded an array of experience including adult and pediatric reconstructive procedures encompassing the entire spectrum of hand surgery problems, as well as extensive experience in complex workers compensation cases. Dr. Gorski is an active contributor to the field of hand surgery and has presented research at local, regional and national meetings. He has authored educational resources to train residents and surgeons alike. His research project from the University of Connecticut, creating a new surgical technique to reconstruct the collateral ligament of the hand, was awarded the Kirk Watson Founders Award for best clinical paper at the 2018 New England Hand Society meeting. He has traveled around the country and the globe to bring the newest and most innovative techniques in hand surgery to the Metro-Detroit area. Dr. Gorski has provided volunteer surgical services via mission trips to victims and disadvantaged populations in Tegucigalpa, Honduras at Hospital Escuela Universitario. His clinical focus is on surgical and non surgical treatment of the hand, wrist and elbow in addition to complex reconstruction, nerve compression of the upper extremity, wrist arthroscopy, Dupuytren’s Contracture, burns of the upper extremity, complex arthritis and endoscopic carpal tunnel release.
