Welcome to Sunshine Child Development Center! Our center was established in 1989 to provide quality child care and early education programs for children six weeks through elementary school years for the Quonset Business Development Park and the surrounding community. Our program provides a high quality early childhood learning experience in a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of young children while responding to the needs of the family. We abide by the standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We promote developmentally appropriate practice including the use of a nationally recognized, quality, research based curriculum framework that promotes active (earning. Our programs implement a quality curriculum guided by the Rhode Island Early Learning Standards. We are committed to the value of play as a primary instrument in how children learn. Through play, children enhance learning of skills, knowledge and dispositions that ensures success in later schooling. We use an authentic assessment system referred to as a portfolio. Through this system, our teachers gather information about your child's learning styles, interests, developmental levels and progress towards developmentally appropriate goals. Parents are welcome into our program at any time of the day to join us for lunch, to observe, to participate in the classroom or to meet with the teacher or the director.
