Causes include underlying diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis or Thyroid Disease, the natural aging process, menopause, and medications such as antihistamines. It can also occur after Laser Vision Correction (LASIK, PRK, etc.), but in this case the symptoms are usually temporary.

Macular degeneration can result in central vision that is blurry, with dark areas or distortion, making activities like reading or threading a needle difficult or impossible.
• Laser Eye Surgery
  Laser vision correction (LASIK) has become the surgical procedure of choice for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Many advances – including Customized LASIK and “all laser†LASIK – have resulted in the better visual outcomes and have improved the safety of LASIK procedures.
• Cataracts
  Recently, the FDA approved a monofocal IOL called the Acrysof® Toric IOL that can now correct both the cataract and astigmatism simultaneously. The unique design of the AcrySof® Toric IOL gives the possibility for quality distance vision for patients with astigmatism, independent of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
• Cataract Surgery
  In the past, patients with astigmatism who had traditional cataract surgery would still experience blurred distance vision. They would still need glasses or contact lenses because the lens replacement could not change their astigmatism.

  A comprehensive eye examination includes a number of different tests. The tests usually take 1-2 hours, depending on what is required for your age and symptoms.

Dr. Moysidis is also interested in ocular trauma and is available to see ocular emergencies after hours.

  The Ex-PRESS is manufactured from stainless steel which is commonly used in human implantations including cardiac stents. The Ex-PRESS has been proven to be biocompatible and MRI safe.
