When I started attending my therapy sessions, I had attempted suicide previously, and was contemplating it again. I was dealing with numerous issues that, some of which, went way back since my childhood. I compounded my depression with the use of drugs. I wanted my pain to stop, but didn't know how to stop it, short of stopping my life. I was referred to my counselor by a friend of mine, and was a bit hesitant, but what did I have to lose? The very first session was a bit awkward, but it didn't take long for me to become comfortable with my 'new friend'. He never once passed judgement on me, and was genuinely concerned. When I was having rough times, he had agreed to see me 2x weekly, and when I could not afford to pay, he still made time for me every week. I was so excited about having a neutral person to talk to, I have told all my friends and family about him. I have referred several people to Taking Control. I moved out west 5 yrs ago, and still wish I had my weekly visits.
