General Info

Trinity Lutheran Church was stared as a mission in 1848 among German Lutherans in Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and grew to prominence as the city of Norristown flourished. Norristown became an important town as the county seat of Montgomery County with a busy courthouse. A large number of German Lutherans settled in and around Norristown causing fairly rapid growth from the Civil War through World War I. The rapid growth is reflected in the various church buildings constructed and parish records. Trinity came to be one of the largest churches in the county by the early 1920's. At this time the city of Norristown was one of the leading business and legal centers of the Delaware Valley. The urban population around Trinity continued to grow and peaked in the 1950's with the post World War II baby boom. The congregation was a vibrant community with a large programmatic offering of ministries and services including a Nursery School. The Parish records showed an average worship attendance of about five hundred per Sunday in 1946 and seventeen hundred communing members. Yet, from about 1965 to 1985 parish records showed a steady decline in all areas of church life as a suburbanizing trend in the population led younger families to the suburbs around Norristown. In 1986, the average age of Trinity's membership was seventy years old. The congregation grew down to about eighty people. Therefore, the Synodical Bishop, in concert with a new pastor, invited to the congregation to restart their mission in a new location with potential high growth. In 1988 and 1993, pastor and congregation conducted two successful capital campaigns and sold their church buildings in preparation for the purchase of an old farm in Fairview Village, PA. The new site, about eight miles form Norristown, was determined to be a high growth area and promising as a new mission area. The congregation built their first mission building in 1994 and began public ministry in December of 1994. Since 1994, the congregation has grown from eighty people to over 220 families. Congregational ministries have grow to include a large nursery/preschool, Sunday school, active adult faith formation, youth group, Men's groups, and many small group ministries. The dramatic growth patterns have placed Trinity in the position of needing to expand its buildings and facilities on a constant basis. Building programs in 1994, 2002, 2005 and the current building expansion plans have barley kept pace with their needs. The current community around Trinity is a younger, affluent and professional population as our demographic studies indicate. The "Ministry Area Profile"snapshot by Percept Group Inc shows the area has significant traditional affluent families, suburban mid-life families and reliable young starters. Our mission to this demographic will be to build on our strongest programmatic outreach programs like our Pre-School and Youth Programs. In 2008, the congregation will likely begin building a large multi-purpose & worship center for the ongoing needs of the congregation and community at large. While planning significant staff development for current and future ministries. There are approximately forty full and part-time employees Trinity Church
