A sleep study was recommended by a doctor who never examined me or went over my records with me!!! I rated low risk for sleep apnea according to the paperwork I filled out prior to my physical, which was done by a nurse practioner/physicians ass't. She did ask me to do an overnight pulse oximetry, which I did and passed with no problems. I later received a call stating the doctor was requesting I do an overnight sleep study. I asked why and was not given an answer. I also asked who would pay for this sleep study and was told I had to go through my personal physician. Why should I have the expense of my deductible plus 20 percent of the cost when I had no symptoms? This seems, in my opinion, to be unethical. I am a retired dental professional and understand the ethics of prescribing unnecessary treatment, and feel this recommendation was not necessary. I di not complete my physical with this facility and will never return.
