- Primary CareAt Atlantic Physical Therapy, we have found consistency leads to the best results. We recommend that you schedule appointments with the same PT or PTA for your care. We realize that many patients need specific times for their appointments, and if your primary care team is not available when you want to come in, another care team will cover, following your established treatment plan. You will get the same level of caring and dedication from all those who represent Atlantic Physical Therapy.
- OrthopedicsOur Physical Therapists have post-baccalaureate degrees in Physical Therapy at either the Master’s or Doctoral level and are licensed in Virginia to evaluate your condition and provide physical therapy treatments. In addition, we have PT’s with advanced board certifications as specialists in orthopedics and sports physical therapy as well as certifications in golf fitness and movement disorders.
- Bunion SurgeryWhen the problem is serious enough to need surgery, we are here to help you make a full recovery. Common surgeries we see are ankle and foot fractures, Achilles’ tendon repairs, lateral ankle reconstructions, and bunion surgery. We work closely with your surgeon to make sure that your recovery from your surgery follows a safe and effective protocol.
- Joint ReplacementOver the course of our life, our hip joint gradually shows wear and tear. The smooth layer that covers the bone and lines our joint gets thinner. When the problem becomes severe, there is often a loss of hip mobility and increasing pain. Luckily, there have been tremendous advances in technology and surgical methods to replace the hip. This is covered in greater detail in the Joint Replacement section
- Hip ReplacementOver the years, the therapists at Atlantic Physical Therapy have helped literally thousands of people recover from joint replacement surgery. Those with shoulder replacements have been able to return to activities such as swinging a golf club or tossing a ball with their grandchildren. Our knee and hip replacement clients have resumed recreational tennis, paddle boarding, and gardening. Our ankle replacement clients walk without pain or restriction. Whatever your individual goals may be, we can help you recover from post-operative pain and swelling, restore motion and strength to the involved limb and help you return to your optimal level of function.
- Sports MedicineAtlantic Physical Therapy has a long tradition of supporting our community particularly in the realm of sports medicine. For many years we assisted in organizing and providing medical coverage for community events such as the Shamrock Marathon. We continue this tradition with our coordination of medical coverage for the Excalibur Cup, a major gymnastics competition with athletes from the U.S. as well as international competitors. This multi-day event is held annually in Virginia Beach for gymnasts from novice to elite and Olympic levels. We accomplish this mission through the support of our staff, volunteers, and coordination with our colleagues in the athletic training and emergency medical services community.

- Occupational TherapyAccording to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 1.3 million Americans required office based Physical or Occupational Therapy in 2014.
- Frozen ShoulderMany shoulder injuries are due to overuse and repetitive movements but others are a result of trauma. Common shoulder injuries we treat are: shoulder impingement, rotator cuff injuries (tendonitis and tears), biceps tendonitis, labral injuries, frozen shoulder, arthritis and shoulder joint replacements. All of these issues are unique in themselves but link back to the delicate balance of mobility and stability. Research has shown that many of these conditions respond well to physical therapy; however, in some cases surgery is required to restore the structure or integrity of the shoulder anatomy.
- Tennis ElbowAt Atlantic Physical Therapy we are expertly trained in both non-surgical and surgical rehabilitation of the elbow, specializing in the overhead athlete. We commonly treat elbow tendonitis, tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis), Little Leaguer’s elbow, hyperextension injuries, arthritis, osteochondral defects (OCD), and ligament sprains/tears (ulnar collateral ligament sprains and Tommy John surgery). Research has shown that these conditions often respond well to quality physical therapy, eliminating the need for surgery. We work closely with local physicians and surgeons to provide the best care possible. Whether you are experiencing elbow symptoms from sport, work or normal daily activities, we will guide you on the road back to your desired activity through a treatment program custom designed for you.
