The Avery County Schools Board of Education is a part of Avery County Schools and works for the development of the district s schools. Avery County Schools includes Avery High School, Avery Middle School, Freedom Trail Elementary School and Newland Elementary School. Avery County Schools serves students in kindergarten through grade 12. Its schools offer various athletic activities, such as baseball, basketball, cheerleading, golf, softball, and track and field. Each school of the district maintains a parent organization, as well as operates libraries.
