General Info
In 1956, what is now Rick's Tavern was being used as a tool shed, adjacent to a sawmill north of Newfane Village. Later, the shed was moved to it's present location and became "Marie's Dinette",which closed around 1959 because of "improper facilities"...their outhouse wasn't adequate for a public restaurant. They turned it into a summer camp, which was used for sixteen years. Rick bought the building in April, 1978, renovated it to meet modern day health and fire codes and opened Rick's Tavern. The bar, built around 1890 in Bismark, North Dakota, was shipped to the Winchester Hotel in Winchester, New Hampshire. In 1965, only 23 feet of the original 50 foot bar was bought and relocated to the "Harmony Room", later known as the "Village Barn" in Brattleboro, Vermont. In 1972, the bar was removed from the Village Barn and stored in a garage for six years. In 1978, Rick purchased the bar, restored it to it's original condition and it has performed flawlessly ever since. Construction of the dining room started in May, 1981 and it opened on July 7, 1981. In September, 2002, after a successful twenty fiver year run, Rick sold the business to local residents. The menu was expanded to include fresh seafood specialties (arriving twice a week directly from the docks of Boston), hearty steaks and chops, homemade pasta creations and Cindy's yummy desserts. Our new draft beer selection focuses on Vermont micro-brews. Live music was introduced on Saturday nights, and soon after "Jazz Night" was established on Thursdays. Additionally, some improvements were made to the facility (both inside and out). Stop in a see how much Rick's Tavern has to offer!
