All the hotels in Poughkeepsie were full, and we found this motel past midnight on our way to Port Jervis, The pluses: $50 a night, half of what other hotels charge, clean sheets, a clean bathroom, a smoking room for non-smokers that did not reek of smoke. The minuses: no hot water, a window facing the road that could be opened, but not locked, a smoke alarm without a battery, no blanket, just a bedspread with holes, cigarette holes on the tub, missing light bulbs, no bedside lights, overhead lights only, no hangers -- just a beat-up dresser, and a single bug on the wall in the morning. We were lucky to find a room - but all we got was a place to sleep and a bathroom with cold water.
