- Dental ExaminationFour out of five people have periodontal disease and don’t know it! Most people are not aware of it because the disease is usually painless in the early stages. Unlike tooth decay, which often causes discomfort, it is possible to have periodontal disease without noticeable symptoms. Having regular dental check-ups and periodontal examinations are very important and will help detect if periodontal problems exist.
- X-rays
- Oral Cancer ScreeningOral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any sings of oral cancer.
- Teeth CleaningIf you have already been treated for gum disease, either with laser therapy or scaling and root planing treatment, Dr. Woodyard may set you up with a periodontal maintenance plan. A series of deep cleanings, regular checkups and prescription products will reduce the risk of the infection returning. A proper home care routine combined with regular dental cleanings will also help keep gum disease away.
- Fluoride Treatment
- Fillings
- CrownsYou may have asked your periodontist about procedures to improve a “gummy” smile because your teeth appear short. Your teeth may actually be the proper length, but they’re covered with too much gum tissue. To correct this, your periodontist performs crown lengthening or gum lift.
- BridgesFixed bridges – This type of bridge is generally made of porcelain or composite material and is anchored (cemented) permanently to a natural teeth adjacent to the missing tooth site. The benefit of this type of bridge is that it is fixed (not removable) and it is very sturdy. The disadvantage is that in order to create a fixed appliance, two healthy, natural teeth will have to be crowned (capped) to hold the bridge in place.
- Gingivectomy and GingivoplastyA gum lift, also known as gingivectomy or gum contouring, is a periodontal treatment aimed at reshaping or removing excess gum tissue to improve the appearance of the gums and teeth.
- DenturesPractice good oral hygiene – Brush at least twice a day with an ADA approved fluoride toothpaste and toothbrush. Floss daily to remove food debris and plaque from in between the teeth and under the gumline. Brush or use a tongue scraper to clean the tongue and reach the back areas. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months. If you wear dentures or removable bridges, clean them thoroughly and place them back in your mouth in the morning.

- Tooth ExtractionsWe offer nitrous oxide sedation dentistry in Evansville, IN. Inhaling this colorless gas for a few minutes can create a tingling sensation as the body becomes more relaxed. - Ridge AugmentationIf you have lost bone and gum tissue after gum disease or an injury, you may be a good candidate for a ridge augmentation or preservation procedure. Dr. Woodyard uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to rebuild the tissue around the tooth socket and restore the gum and bone structures. PRP is especially effective for speeding up healing at an injury site and can increase the chances of a positive outcome with your procedure.
- Bone GraftingMany patients who are good candidates for dental implants in Newburgh, IN, learn that they must undergo a bone graft before we can place dental implants. This is because dental implants need to be fused to a certain amount of bone in the jaw. If this is underdeveloped or missing, we must proceed with a bone grafting procedure and allow that to heal before dental implant placement. Dr. James Woodyard uses innovative technologies including the SonicWeld Rx® to ensure optimal results with all grafting and implant dentistry procedures.
