General Info
“Being in the way” as a still photographer . . . How do I see myself as an artist and portrait photographer? I think it's by the way I take things in. From my mother I learned to love gardening and with it the taste of blueberries, the tactile sensation of rubbing a dirt clod into fine particles, and the fragrance of home-grown carnations. I prefer the visual imprint of Dutch irises to that of a monkey tree, and I appreciate the sound of bumblebees, so rare now in most gardens. As photographers, we put ourselves in the way to capture on film or the digital sensor the world around us and the people in our studios. Sometimes we are just in the right place at the right time . . . to seize tenderness, confidence, joy, individuality! Anyway you look at it, “being in the way” is my way of being an artist.
