The company was formed in 1965 with the intention of specializing in the international ammonia market. Transammonia is among the largest private or government producers of ammonia in terms of tonnage sold in the international trade. It is a major player in the international and United States domestic trade of nitrogen solutions. Transammonia operates a large fleet of sulphur rail cars that are dedicated to deliveries of liquid sulphur to its contract customers in the United States. The company is also a major supplier of NPK to China and other markets. Transammonia is headquartered in New York.
