Pomodoro, has been a neighborhood favorite for years. The beautifully prepared Italian classics and excellent service has earned this restaurant a loyal following of Upper West Siders. Beige walls adorned with decorative ceramic plates from Italy, a ceiling trellis with hanging grapes and red and white-checkered tablecloths evoke the feeling of an authentic Italian trattoria. The street side outdoor café is the place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and savor the antipasti while watching the people stride by. The home-made quality of Pomodoro's specialty dishes are the talk of the town. As you feast your eyes on the menu selections, the very friendly staff gets you started with delectable homemade foccacia and a basket of bread. The beautifully scripted menu will entice you to try the Antipasti, favorites like Calamare Fritti, fresh Mozzarella with tomato, basil and olive oil, or the house specialty, Pappa al Pomodoro, a Tuscan stale of herbed tomato soup, which is served in a scooped-out loaf of round bread. Large bowls of piping hot pastas like Mafeldina al Sugo di Carne, a fresh fettuccine in a rich, meaty tomato sauce or Ravioli alla Aragosta, stuffed with lobster meat in a light cream sauce, keep people coming back for more. Stella seafood selections include Zuppe di Pesce and Risotto Pescatore. Traditional Italian fare like Veal Scallopine sautéed with wild Rugantino, chicken breast topped with goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes and Portobello mushrooms in a sherry wine sauce and Salmone al Capperi, salmon topped with capers.
