General Info

Dr. Goyal is a graduate of Phillips Academy-Andover, completed his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University, and received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. Dr. Goyal joined the Weill Cornell Medicine community in 2010 where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine and completed fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease as well as in Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology. During this time, Dr. Goyal also completed a Master's of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research from the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences.Dr. Goyal is now a full-time faculty member at Weill Cornell Medicine, with joint appointments in the Division of Cardiology (as a member of the Perkin Heart Failure Center) and the Division of General Internal Medicine (as a member of the core health services research faculty). Dr. Goyal has a specific interest in caring for older adults with heart failure, especially heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (a subtype of heart failure that disproportionately affects older adults). In 2018, Dr. Goyal founded (and currently serves as Director for) the Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) Program at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York-Presbyterian Hospital, which represents one of just a few programs across the country dedicated to HFpEF. Dr. Goyal is also the Director of the Cardiac Amyloidosis Program at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York-Presbyterian Hospital.Dr. Goyal has also been very active in research. He has led studies published in high-impact journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Journal of the American College of Cardiology; and has received significant extramural funding including research grants from the National Institute on Aging, the American Heart Association, and the New York Community Trust. In August 2020, Dr. Goyal received the Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging (K76) to develop and test a patient-centered strategy for deprescribing in heart failure.Dr. Goyal is also an active member of the American College of Cardiology, where he currently serves as the Chair of the Geriatric Cardiology Early Career Professionals Working Group; he Co-Chairs the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) Heart Failure Working Group; and sits on the Editorial Board for the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Cardiac Failure.Dr. Goyal has a growing research program which is funded by the National Institute on Aging, the American Heart Association, and the New York Community Trust.
