Formed in 1845, New York City Policy Department is a general public service division. Located in New York, N.Y., the department provides law enforcement and investigation services. It also offers an array of specialized services in the categories of emergency services unit, harbor patrol, air support, bomb disposal, anti-terrorism, criminal intelligence, anti-gang, narcotics, public transportation and public housing. Through its training bureau, the department oversees all formal training. The training bureau also serves as the primary advisor to the police commissioner.
