- Dental ExaminationPeriodontal disease may be diagnosed by your dentist, or dental hygienist, during a periodontal examination. This type of exam will always be part of your regular dental checkup.
- X-raysDigital radiography, or digital X-ray, is used to take dental X-rays. An electronic sensor, versus the X-ray film, is used to capture and store the digital image on a computer. In our NYC office, this image may be viewed instantly, as well as enlarged, to go over with our patients. The latest technology aids dentists and dental hygienists in detecting problems more easily. Digital X-rays also reduce radiation by 80-90%, in comparison to the already low exposure of traditional dental X-rays.
- Oral Cancer ScreeningOral cancer screening. This checks the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, cheek tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
- Teeth CleaningBrushing and flossing are of paramount importance to oral hygiene. Though bi-annual professional dental cleanings remove plaque, tartar and debris, excellent homecare methods are equally valuable. Proper brushing and flossing can enhance the health of the mouth, make the smile sparkle and prevent serious diseases.
- Fluoride TreatmentFluoride is a natural substance that helps strengthen teeth and prevent tooth decay in patients of all ages. It can be found in tap water sources, foods, toothpastes, mouthwashes, and professional treatments from your dentist. Sufficient fluoride treatment is important for developing children to ensure they have the protection needed against cavities in their teeth. Fluoride treatments are available in our dental offices and can be applied in several forms. Supplements are also an option if there is an insufficient amount of fluoride in the water supply.
- Dental SealantsWe strongly believe at Central Park Dentistry that education and preventative care are significant to achieving and maintaining optimal dental health. We provide “dental health care” vs “disease care”, which is why we focus on thorough exams. Through thorough exams, we check the overall health of your teeth and gums, perform oral cancer exams, and take X-rays when necessary. In addition, routine cleanings, flossing, sealants, and fluoride are all helpful in preventing dental disease. In addition to our focus on the beauty of your smile, we’re concerned about your overall health. By providing us with a review of your medical history, we can stay informed of your overall health, new medications, and any illnesses that may impact your dental health. Your health comes first at Central Park Dentistry, which is why our dental practice is focused on education and prevention.
- FillingsThe most desirable benefit of tooth colored fillings is their natural appearance. Metal amalgam fillings may have dark spots in the back of your teeth that can be seen when you talk and laugh. Your tooth colored filling will blend in perfectly with your natural teeth, which will make it virtually invisible.
- Resin CompositeOur doctors will match your tooth colored fillings to the shade of your natural teeth by making them virtually invisible. Tooth colored fillings are made out of a durable composite resin material that does not change in size or shape in the presence of different temperatures. This material is bonded to your tooth and will withstand moderate chewing pressure. Our dental experts applies tooth colored fillings by placing the composite mixture directly on the tooth while the material is still soft. This results in newly restored teeth that are stronger and resistant against fracture.
- VeneersPorcelain veneers are very thin and durable tooth shaped porcelain, which is custom made (shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful, more attractive smile.
- CrownsReplacing large fillings in back teeth often requires stronger, more precisely contoured restorations. These are called inlays or onlays depending on whether they are being placed inside the tooth or on its outer surface. They may also be called partial crowns. Inlay or onlay restorations are custom-fit and they are made of composite material, gold, or tooth-colored porcelain. An inlay or onlay is more conservative than crowns in repairing teeth that have large defective fillings, or have been damaged by decay or trauma, because less tooth structure is removed during the preparation stage. They are the ideal alternative to conventional silver and composite fillings. The inlay or onlay is made by a professional dental laboratory and is permanently cemented to the tooth by one of our dental experts.
- BridgesA dental bridge is a natural-looking dental appliance that can replace a section of missing teeth. Dental bridges can be removable or permanent. Fixed bridges are bonded permanently and can only be removed by a dentist. Because they are custom-made, bridges are barely noticeable and can restore the natural contour of teeth as well as the proper bite relationship between upper and lower teeth. Central Park Dentistry specializes in fixed bridges for patients in NYC.

- PulpotomyPulpotomy involves the removal of the nerve in the crown (part of the tooth above the gum line), which is then filled with a sedative material placed into the nerve chamber. - Periodontal SurgeryIf the pockets do not heal, after scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery may be needed to reduce pocket depths. This will make it easier to clean the teeth. Your dentist may also recommend that you see a Periodontist–a specialist of the gums and supporting bone.
- Deep CleaningMedications may be used with treatment that includes scaling and root planning, but they cannot always take the place of surgery. Medications, special medicated mouth rinses, and an electric toothbrush may be recommended to help control infection, as well as promote the healing process. Depending on how far the disease has progressed, the dentist or periodontist may still suggest surgical treatment.
- DenturesDentures are a replacement for missing teeth that can be removed and put back into your mouth as you please. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile. Central Park Dentistry specializes in dentures for patients in NYC.

- Oral SurgeryDr. Charley Levy attended Cornell University where he received his B.A. in Economics. Following Cornell, Dr. Levy attended Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. While in dental school, he was the lead author of two journal articles published in the New York State Dental Journal and the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After graduating from Columbia, Dr. Levy spent 2 years of residency training in oral surgery at Weill Cornell. As a result of this intensive training, he became proficient in all of the basics of oral surgery. This included extraction of teeth, placement of dental implants and the ability to work with medically compromised patients. His last 2 years of post-graduate training were at Montefiore Medical Center and Columbia University where he concentrated on the more advanced aspects of general dentistry. In addition to complex dental restorations, he gained extensive experience in restoring dental implants. The 4 years of training after dental school provided an unusual opportunity to become proficient in all areas of general dentistry.
- Flap SurgeryPocket elimination surgery. Pocket elimination surgery (flap surgery) is a surgical treatment that can be performed to reduce the pocket size between the teeth and gums. Another option is surgery on the jawbone, which serves to eliminate indentations in the bone. Indentations can foster the colonization of bacteria.

- Tooth ExtractionsWe will first make every effort to try and save the tooth, but this is not always possible. Dental extractions are often performed to remove a broken tooth, due to tooth decay, or to remove over-retained teeth that cause overcrowding in the mouth and shift teeth. The extraction procedure is performed under local anesthesia with minimal discomfort. After the extraction, your child is advised to stay away from certain foods and drinks for a few days. He or she should feel better within two to three days. To minimize discomfort, we recommend applying ice to the affected area, rinsing the mouth with water, and/or taking pain medication.
- OrthodonticsOrthodontics: Less visible and more effective brackets and wires are making straightening teeth with orthodontics much more appealing to adult patients. Also, in some cases, teeth may be straightened with custom-made, clear, removable aligners that require no braces.
- Invisalign OrthodonticsFirst, the dentist needs to examine an initial treatment plan before creating the special aligning trays. 3D digital images are taken of the entire jaw. These images allow the dentist to move specific teeth on the screen, view the jaw from different angles, and also foresee what the face might look like in years to come. In essence, this technology can show how Invisalign® trays will change the facial aesthetics.
- BracesThis analysis allows the dentist to evaluate the relationship between your child’s upper and lower jaws. Early examination can be crucial to preventing trauma, tooth sensitivity, and even braces in the future.
