Founded in 1988, Harlem United Community AIDS Center was formerly known as the Upper Room AIDS Ministry. It serves more than 9,000 people annually through testing and outreach programs. The center undertakes HIV testing and has a work force of over 150 workers. It offers pastoral counseling, as well as medical, social and supportive services. Harlem United Community AIDS Center also operates a medical department that specializes in health education, observed therapy and dental care programs. The center additionally provides HIV prevention and housing and care services. Its women and children housing program offers ongoing clinical and psychiatric care. Harlem United Community AIDS Center maintains its headquarters in New York City.
