- UltrasoundUltrasound uses high frequency sound waves to image internal organs. Images are created by sending sound waves into the body and then listening for their “echo”. The sound waves are sent into the body by placing an ultrasound probe on the skin. A warm gel will be placed between the skin and probe to facilitate transmission of the sound waves. The same probe listens for the echoes returning from the body. Only structures under the probe are imaged so the probe will be moved around the body by one of our experienced sonographers to completely image the area of interest.
- MRIMagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of the body’s internal structures that are clearer, more detailed and more likely in some instances to identify and accurately characterize disease than other imaging methods.
