blue tomato was founded in 1998 in response to what I viewed as a "missing piece" in the field of tutoring - a personal yet comprehensive learning center that would meet a range of educational needs. My vision was to create a learning center that would offer families and their children the opportunity for ongoing academic tutoring, short term standardized test preparation, and/or assistance during high school and college application processes - one on one attention to meet a variety of needs all under one roof. What emerged is a unique, multifaceted educational facility dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals. All tutoring done at blue tomato is individualized and based on the notion that a student's educational attitude and performance are integrally dependent of facets of his/her life including family, friendships, school pressures etc. blue tomato offers tutors who not only know the subject matter they are tutoring, but who are compassionate, empathetic and sensitive to the struggles of adolescence. Helping students succeed by becoming conscious of and taking responsibility for their choices as they move through school and adolescence is a fundamental aspect of the educational process here. Whether students are here to prepare for an SAT, for tutoring in a particular academic area, or for help with the college application process, they learn more than just content and subject matter. Our educational philosophy is rooted in the belief that when students are taught to understand their own role in their success, they leave blue tomato with the ability to positively impact their future.Creating blue tomato has been an exciting journey for me. I feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in the lives of so many bright, creative, and talented students.
