Our piano tuning business started in May of 1974. Dean Kramer, the owner, apprenticed for one and a half years at the Ostrander Piano Shop in Dillsburg, PA. By the fall of 1974, we were advertising and building up a clientele base for piano tuning. In March of 1977, the business was expanded to become a retail store for used pianos. Our first two stores were in Union Bridge, MD, in buildings which were rented. In November of 1978 our current building was purchased in New Midway, MD. In 1985, we started selling new pianos along with the used pianos. In 1984, we expanded our store to include piano lessons. Then in 1990 we expanded Kramer?s Piano Shop to include music book inventory. We currently stock 8,500 piano and guitar books. 2007 marked the start of our ?Music Gift Boutique.? We are a family-owned and operated business. Dean started the business as a seventeen year old piano tuner. Lois Kramer, Dean?s wife, has worked alongside him for thirty-five years. Two of our daughters are piano teachers, one of which teaches at Kramer?s. Dean?s mother, Fern Kramer, also teaches at the store. Over the years, Dean?s brother, sister, sister-in-law, and a cousin have also been employed at Kramer?s. The rest of our staff is highly valued and skilled at their areas of expertise in serving our customers. We currently serve 4,000 to 5,000 customers, with many occasional customers. Kramer?s Piano Shop tunes for three public school systems, several colleges, and over three hundred churches. Our tuning area includes a four state region, (Pa., Md., Va., and WV), as well as Washington, D.C. We move pianos throughout the east coast. Our staff has tuned over 67,531 pianos since we have been in business. At Kramer?s, you will find our staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, and trained to serve with excellence.
