General Info
Judd H. Fastenberg, MD, is a board-certified otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive sinus and endoscopic skull base surgery. He treats disorders including chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal obstruction, chronic nasal drainage, sinonasal malignancies, and skull base and orbital tumors.Inspired by his surgeon father, Dr. Fastenberg knew he wanted to become a physician at a young age. "I was always so fascinated with surgery," he says. "Now I see that it's such a cognitive and technical challenge-and I love that. Every day is something different."Dr. Fastenberg received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his medical degree from Albany Medical College. He then completed residency training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a fellowship in rhinology and endoscopic skull base surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia. In 2019, Dr. Fastenberg joined Northwell and began working alongside a multidisciplinary team that includes specialists in neurosurgery, ophthalmology and medical oncology. The leading-edge procedures Dr. Fastenberg performs are done mainly through the nose, which means no scarring-and a much faster and easier recovery for patients, who in the past would have needed major surgery and extensive hospitalization. Dr. Fastenberg is an assistant professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and he has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He's also an active member of the North American Skull Base Society and the American Rhinologic Society. As much as Dr. Fastenberg enjoys the challenges of surgery, it's the impact he can have on a patient's life that drives him. "I really care about my patients," he says. "The fact that I can fix a problem for someone and make them feel better is the best part."
