Charles Carmine Conte, MD, is a surgical oncologist with over three decades of experience. He specializes in every type of cancer, including breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancers and melanoma. Joining Northwell in 2004, Dr. Conte sees patients at Northwell Health Physician Partners Surgical Oncology at Lake Success, part of R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center. "Cancer doesn't follow any rules-every case is unique and complex," says Dr. Conte. "That's why we take a comprehensive approach for each patient. We have surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, as well as access to many diagnostic tools and clinical trials, all at this one center." He is also affiliated with many Northwell hospitals for his patients' convenience.Dr. Conte trained at institutions across the Northeast, attending medical school at Dartmouth and completing a residency at Hartford Hospital and a fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He is an associate professor of surgery at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and teaches surgical oncology residents at Northwell. "I really enjoy teaching because students and residents are always questioning things," he says. "Explaining my decisions to them helps keep me sharp as a doctor."When it comes to his patients, Dr. Conte is passionate about delivering personalized care. "I love the challenge of putting the best plan together for each individual person," he says. "Seeing the positive impact it has on their lives is very rewarding."
