- RheumatologyKaren’s extensive nursing experience includes adult inpatient medicine, HIV/AIDS, and medical intensive care. At Yale New Haven Hospital, she achieved Clinical Nurse II status and co-chaired the Yale MICU Sedation Committee. As a clinical nurse practitioner, Karen first worked in the field of Rheumatology. She joined Endocrine Associates of Connecticut in 2014, and has since developed clinical expertise in the management of a wide variety of Endocrine conditions, including diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, and osteoporosis.
- Primary CareDr. Philip Goldberg established the shoreline (Branford) office of Endocrine Associates of Connecticut in October 2005. Dr. Goldberg was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. In 1992, he earned his BA in Psychology from Cornell University. After earning his MD at Cornell University Medical College in 1996, Dr. Goldberg completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1999. Then, after spending two years practicing primary care at Clinton Internal Medicine (Clinton, CT), Dr. Goldberg returned to Yale University in 2001 to complete a four-year fellowship in Endocrinology & Metabolism. Dr. Goldberg is a dedicated clinician and teacher. In and out of the office, he devotes much of his time to educating medical students, residents, and fellows at the Yale University School of Medicine, where he is a Clinical Assistant Professor.
- Labor and DeliveryKathryn Peterson, MSN, FNP-C, achieved her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in August 2014 from the Quinnipiac Accelerated Nursing Program on the Dean’s List after previously holding a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. She worked as a registered nurse on a medicine floor before transferring to a labor and delivery unit at Yale New Haven Hospital, where she has been for 6 years. While working full time, she decided to return to Quinnipiac and graduated on the Dean’s list with a Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2019, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society of Nursing. She is now working on completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Quinnipiac.
- Internal MedicineDr. Surani Fernando has been part of Endocrine Associates of Connecticut since January 2007. She was born in Sri Lanka and raised in Queens, New York. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Columbia College, New York receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She subsequently earned her MD at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Fernando then completed her Internal Medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in 2000 and was Chief Resident at the Department of Medicine, Hospital of Saint Raphaels in 2001. She returned to Yale University to complete a three-year fellowship in Endocrinolgy, Diabetes and Metabolism, where she devoted her research time to the study of hypoglycemia in Type 1 Diabetes. Along with her busy clinical practice at Endocrine Associates, she is also a preceptor and educator for medical students, residents and fellows at the Yale School of Medicine.
