The Connecticut Department of Children and Families works to improve child safety, ensure that children have permanent families and advance the overall well-being of children. The department protects children who are abused and neglected, strengthens families through support and advocacy, and builds on existing family and community strengths to help children who are facing emotional and behavioral challenges. It offers child protection, behavioral health, and juvenile justice and prevention services. The Connecticut Department of Children and Families maintains Riverview Hospital, which is a psychiatric hospital for children. It also operates residential facilities that include Connecticut Children s Place and High Meadows. The department offers Behavioral Health Services, such as emergency mobile psychiatric, respite care, family advocacy and case management.
