General Info
The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung has a long and distinguished history of being one of the first German newspapers in Texas. The Herald, the community's English-language paper, and the Zeitung, the German-language paper, merged in 1957. Collectively, they have served New Braunfels and Comal County since 1852. In late 1958, the Zeitung ceased printing in German. The New Braunfels Herald printed its first issue in 1890. It was one of the first English-language newspapers published in New Braunfels, Texas. The Herald-Zeitung became one of the largest weekly papers in Texas with a circulation of 10,000. The paper was sold to Taylor Communications in 1980 and became a five-day-a-week newspaper on Feb. 12, 1980. It then was sold to Southern Newspapers in 1984. On May 4, 1998, the paper was converted to a morning newspaper that was released Monday through Friday. The Herald-Zeitung is headquartered in New Braunfels, Texas.
