General Info
Welcome! I graduated from Somerset School of Massage Therapy in September of 2000 and have been in private practice since. I have been certified through NCBTMB since December of 2000 and recently became licensed in the state of Pennsylvania in 2011. I have certification in Neuromuscular Therapy and also teach NMT at a local school in my area for massage. I see clients of all ages whether for relaxation or therapy for relief from pain due to stress or injury. I have experience in many types of massage including NMT (Neuromuscular Therapy), Myocardial Release, Craniofacial Therapy, and Reflexively. My goal as your therapist is to cater to your individual needs, in addition to assuring those needs are protected and received in a safe, ethical, and professional manner. Therapy continues after your massage is over, I will work with you to help you understand what is causing your muscular discomfort, and give you ways to treat it at home as well. Massage Modalities Offered Swedish Massage Swedish massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility. Myocardial Release Myocardial Release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles, and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myocardial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain. Neuromuscular Therapy NMT is very effective and gives consistent results. By lengthening contracted muscles, and relieving other soft tissue restrictions, normal functioning of the area is restored (e.g. normal blood flow, reduction of inflammation, normal loading of the body with gravity, etc.). By working on Trigger Points and their referred areas, we calm the nervous system and reduce/eliminate the irritation in the sensory nerves. When both of these are accomplished, pain goes away, and you feel dramatically better. I utilize the Janet Travel method of Neuromuscular Therapy. When I teach NMT my material comes from the "Travel and Simons Myocardial Pain and Dysfunction Trigger Point Manuals." Orthopedic Massage Orthopedic massage is a style of massage therapy focused on treating painful conditions that affect the soft tissues of the body. Because orthopedic massage is designed to treat medical conditions, it requires extensive training. It involves releasing tense muscles, helping to stretch and lengthen tight muscles and tendons, and decompresses rigid joints. My goal is to restore full health to the soft tissues of your body, both treating your specific conditions as well as improving your overall well-being. Orthopedic Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy go hand in hand with one another. It's all about ridding the body of pain and dysfunction, and restoring normal flow, posture, and function. Craniofacial (SM) Craniofacial Therapy is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing neck pain, back pain, and mental stress (among other things). It does this by optimizing the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spine and around the skull. Developed by physician William Sutherland, this therapy provides a very soothing and relaxing healing experience.
