The Polk County Emergency Medical Services focuses on prehospital treatment and transportation. The division responds to all 911 emergency medical calls and provides the only paramedic ambulance service within Polk County, Fla. It operates nearly 30 paramedic ambulances and more than 20 stations throughout the county. The division responds to over 75,000 events yearly serving a population of approximately 580,000 residents. It is also the lead agency in coordination of the countywide paramedic response vehicle program for the county fire services division and city fire departments. The Polk County Emergency Medical Services division is funded through property tax revenue and is located in Bartow, Fla.
