General Info
Norton Sound Health Corporation was one of the first Native American health organizations in the country to assume complete responsibility for medical care of the people it serves. The corporation was founded to serve the health care needs of the Inupiat, Siberian Yupik and Yup'ik people of the Bering Strait region of northwest Alaska. Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome, the only Alaska bush community with a road system, is operated by Norton Sound Health Corporation. Services provided at the more than 30-bed hospital includes laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, dental, audiology, optometry and physical and respiratory therapy. Encompassed within the system are clinics in 15 native Alaskan villages scattered on the coast and islands of the Bering Sea. The corporation was established in 1970.
