GVTC began in 1951 and was organized to bring telephone service to Texas north of San Antonio. The company offers customers product diversity with advanced telephone products, Internet access, cable television, security systems and monitoring, long distance calling plans, voice mail products and custom calling features. It spans 2,000 square miles, in 11 counties and serves more than 30,000 customers with 42,000-plus access lines. GVTC is a cooperative association incorporated under the laws of the state of Texas. The members who receive telecommunication services own the company and, as a cooperative, GVTC provides service on a non-profit basis. GVTC is based in New Braunfels, Texas.
