I had a flat safe shelter installed 3 years ago. I was told it would be 2 inches above the ground floor of the garage. 6 months after install it was even with the garage floor. One heavy rain and it flooded. The installers did a poor job. Flat Safe response was to send some one out and put a little cement at spots around it. I have been so frustrated. They claim its all covered, but refuse to do what is right. Stay away from this company. I am thinking of finding some one to pull it out and install it correct. My wife and I are afraid to use it. Do we take cover from storms and then drown?

FlatSafe sucks

We asked FlatSafe to install a shelter in our garage in May, 2014 over the phone. The receptionist did not inform us anything on the requirement to install a shelter in the garage. When the technician came, they just gave us a paper and said that this is agreement of the cost I agreed to pay, not mention anything else and asked me to sign the paper. However, when they started to cut the cement, they said there are post tension cables in our foundation and they can't install the shelter. They asked us to request another company to dig the hole, fix the post tension cable and they would install the shelter afterwards. That would cost another $1,700.

After considering the price and consulting with our builder, I decided not to install the shelter in the garage. When I called the company if they would fix the cut post tension cable, they denied.

As a company to install storm shelters, should they to detect if there are post tension cables in the foundation, before they start to work (destroy the post tension cables), or at least to ask the customer about this? It is not acceptable to tell us that they can not install the shelters after destroy the post tension cables. Even worse, after things happened, they just shifted the blame on the customer not to inform them there are post tension cables. I even did not know what are the post tension cables before, how can I inform? Isn't the company's responsibility to make sure they can do the job before they start? Isn't the company's responsibility to fix the cable after they destroy it?

We just had our Flatsafe installed last month. Hope we never have to use it but it is comforting knowing we have it if needed. Thanks FS!

disappointing. I had an appointment for today at 7:00 a.m. yet last night the contractor called me at 8:30 p.m. in evening to say he would be at my house at 6:00 a.m. making be up at 5:00 a.m. to get cleaned up and dressed. I objected and told him my appointment was for 7:00 a.m. He laughed and said "are they still telling people that" we haven't done that in a long time. I told him I did not want my neighbors up that early with the noise. His response was nobody had complained yet. I say try using a wet saw and see how loud that is. Beside I really think Edmond has a sound ordinance. I told him not to be at my house before 6:30 a.m. I got a lot of silence then a curt response. When my husband got home he told the guy to forget it. I tried calling the company this morning only to find out their office doesn't even open until 10. Go figure. Bad first impression and this company was referred to me by a friend.

we love our shelter

We have a FLATSAFE tornado shelter, installed Sept 08, after a busy tornado spring here in Owasso OK .. and we LOVE our shelter .. the company was AMAZING .. the installers were very respectful and did a great job! I don't care if its painted, or apoxy covered, who cares how pretty it is, as long a it keeps us safe, and we feel it will, based on all the studies and research we have gone through to make our informed decision ..we went with FLATSAFE, and are VERY VERY happy with it .. and by the way, the apoxy cover on it looks great, and we might do our entire garage floor to match it .. it also is covered on the inside with a green indoor/outdoor carpeting, very easy to keep clean!
