Towed my mother's car from a near empty parking lot. She has a handicapped tag in car window and2 carseats in the back. My mother parked her vehicle in the Krispy Kreme parking lot at 2103 Eliston Place in Nashville, TN at roughly 7:15 PM on January 3rd. She had my two children, ages 4 and 7, with her. They stepped around the corner to pick up her order from Eliston Place Soda Shop, which is located next door, with the intention of picking up donuts from Krispy Kreme afterwards. After filling her order at the soda shop next door, the three of them walked into Krispy Kreme and purchased donuts. This entire process would not have been longer than 20 minutes. Upon exiting Krispy Kreme, she noticed her car was missing and was informed that it had probably been towed. A phone call to Express Towing confirmed that. My mother's car has a handicapped hang tag that is clearly visable and it of course had 2 carseats in the back. This company laid in wait to tow her car, not even giving her the chance to enter the establishment of where she parked. Krispy Kreme confirmed that they did not call for the tow. They are from out of town and were staying at a local hotel. They did not have anyone locally that they could call for help. I had to call an Uber to pick up my mother and children on this cold and rainy night to take them to the tow location at 625 Cornelia Court. Jeopardizing my young children's lives, because Uber in Nashville does not offer child safety seats. However, this was the only option that we had at the time. In hindsight, I should have called the police and still may after reporting this issue. The uber driver dropped them off at the tow location, where my mother had to call them twice to get them to come open the gate. After waiting another 15 minutes in the cold rainy weather a man finally arrived to let them in. He acted as if this was a lot of trouble to open the gate and was irritated that my mother had called twice. She was charged over $150 for the care and I am out roughly $35 for the Uber. This company laid in wait to capture my mother's car. She noticed on her bill that the time of pick up was 7:20 PM. They gave her 5 to 10 minutes tops to enter the Krispy Kreme before they towed her from a near empty parking lot. I am certain that someone watched her get of her car, that as I said has a handicapped tag in the front window, and watched an older lady with two young children walk out of sight. They immediately rushed in to confiscate her vehicle. This is a heartless business that would do that to an old woman with two kids on a night like this. A person that would do this is the lowest of the low. This business has a practice of preying on people like my mother and children, leaving them no other option but to pay high fees to retrieve their vehicle. I have yet to decide if it is worth it to pursue legal action against this company.
