Like sitting on the patio here with a coffee, macaron and magazine! The food is great too - the pizzas are a fave (though they can be pretty oily).

Vegetables, etc.!

On January 2, four of us visited Vespaio for dinner. We have all been here a number of times and were so looking forward to another wonderful experience. Unfortunately, part of it was wonderful but when they delivered the Osso Buco for Two the dining experience started taking a different turn as it was such a huge slab of meat that it was basically impossible to divide it between the two parties - one because they didn't bring two large plates, and secondly there isn't room on a table for 4 to do this kind of carving. We finally gave up and asked the server to slice it off the bone and deliver it back to the table. Maybe they should just do the presentation, and then whisk it away for division to the diners.

The gnocchi w/lobster was good, not memorable, but good. The calamari was delicious and cooked just right.

The vegetable plate I ordered was another story. Presentation left a lot to be desired; the potato cake was swimming in butter/oil (I couldn't tell just exactly what it was); the carrots were chopped up like they were being put in a salad; and I think it was some kind of either yellow squash or zucchini which tasted slimy and like it had been coated in bacon fat and lots of it. I found it impossible to eat. My stomach churns to think about it. The broccoli was cooked right, but what they gave me appeared to be leftover from larger spears of broccoli as they were tiny florets just kind of strewn on the plate. All in all, this vegetable plate needs some serious attention!

We all decided that this was not the Vespaio experience we have had in the past; and will not be returning for a long, long time, nor will we be recommending the restaurant as we have so often done over the past couple of years. So disappointing as we considered it one of our best neighborhood restaurants!

Save your paychecks to come here. It is an experience you won't forget!

So expensive. Long waits, and they don't take reservations. Yet, it's still the place to go when I come in town. I love it! The best pasta outside of little Italy!
