The Cooperative Ministry is a faith-based, nonprofit group that provides a range of emergency assistance and community services for the working poor and underprivileged individuals. Founded in 1982, it offers services through partnerships with local civic and social organizations, foundations, businesses, individuals and the United Way. The group provides assistance in the areas of emergency finance, housing, transportation, job procurement and counseling. The Cooperative Ministry offers emergency assistance in food, clothing, identification, medicine and spiritual guidance. It administers the Community Auto Repository program, which includes the provision of free vehicles for individuals who need transportation. The group is overseen by a board of directors, comprised of various congregational and community leaders. The Cooperative Ministry s main office is located in Columbia, S.C.
