Founded in 1998, Cumberland Elementary School serves more than 300 students in prekindergarten through grade four. Its academic curriculum includes programs in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The school additionally offers classes in art, music, reading and physical education. Cumberland Elementary School organizes spelling bee competitions, carnivals and parent workshops. Its after-school programs include tutorial sessions and Girl Scouts. The school offers a Reading First Program, which focuses on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and text compression. Cumberland Elementary School has a parent-teacher organization that supports several fundraising events. In addition, it employs counselors who provide guidance and support services to students, teachers and parents. The school is located in Nashville, Tenn., and is a part of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.
