Established in 1975, the Napa County Department of Corrections works to provide safe, secure and humane housing of incarcerated persons. It has a capacity of more than 260 inmates. The department provides medical, mental and dental services for the inmates. The Napa County Department of Corrections offers a variety of programs, such as adult education, alcoholics and narcotics anonymous, anger management, parenting, bible studies, private counseling, group and class discussions, independent studies, tutoring and audiovisual presentations. It is comprised of over 80 staff members, including clerical, kitchen and maintenance assistants. The department also provides a home detention program that works as an alternative classification for sentenced inmates who have demonstrated their ability to be released.
