- ArthritisYou may need hip replacement surgery if you are experiencing pain or loss of motion in your hip joint. These symptoms may be caused by degenerative arthritis (osteoarthritis), rheumatoid arthritis, or avascular necrosis. Hip arthritis can be caused by injury to the joint, long-term steroid use, alcoholism or systemic diseases. When pain interferes with daily activities such as walking, climbing stairs or getting out of a chair, it’s usually time to consider having surgery.

The safest thing for you to do is to CALL your primary care physician. They have the ability to ask you questions and direct your health care. They are fully prepared to further evaluate your health. His clinical interests include genitourinary cancer, minimally invasive surgery, kidney stone surgery and prevention, voiding dysfunction, and men’s health, including male infertility and erectile dysfunction.

- ColonoscopyDr. Jennifer Bradley is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Bradley received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and a Bachelor of Science degree in human resources from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit where she went on to complete her General Surgery Residency at Wayne State University’s Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Bradley has been trained in all areas of general surgery and has a special interest in surgical endoscopy and colonoscopy. As lifelong Michigan residents, Dr. Bradley and her husband reside in Norton Shores with their two daughters.

- ElectrocardiogramYou should be examined by your family doctor to ensure you are healthy enough for the planned surgery. You will be encouraged to stop smoking before surgery to prevent lung complications or delayed healing. Pre-admission testing (lab work, EKG, chest x-ray) and attendance at a “joint camp” will also be scheduled to further help you prepare for surgery. Anti-inflammatory medications, aspirin, and blood thinning medications should be discontinued one week before your surgery. These medications affect your blood clotting factors and could increase your risk of blood loss during surgery.
- Urinary IncontinenceShe moved back to the west side of the state and joined West Shore Urology in the summer of 2016. Dr Phelps’ interests include urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and pelvic organ prolapse.
- GlaucomaChristopher Stock, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist serving West Michigan patients in a small practice setting. Dr. Stock specializes in cataract surgery and provides diagnosis and treatment for diseases of the eye, including cataracts, glaucoma, optic nerve and retinal diseases, as well as dry eye and allergies.
- OphthalmologyDr. Stock earned degrees at Northwestern University and Wayne State University Medical School, with an internship at St. Joseph Hospital Ann Arbor and residency at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit. He currently serves on the medical staff at Mercy Health Muskegon, St. Mary’s Hospital and Spectrum Health. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

- UrologyDr. Walker joined the University of Michigan Department of Urology in 2017 after serving six years as a urologist in the U.S. Air Force. He grew up in South Dakota, and then came to Michigan to do his undergraduate studies at Hillsdale College. He received his M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his residency training at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. He was then stationed in both England and Alaska with the U.S. Air Force.

- EndoscopyDr. Joel Anderson is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. After graduating with honors from Grand Valley State University, Dr. Anderson received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Michigan. He completed his residency in general surgery at the Michigan State University Grand Rapids campus. Dr. Anderson did his fellowship in surgical endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery at Ohio State University and, most recently, was an associate staff member at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Although trained in all areas of general surgery, Dr. Anderson’s special interest is in endoscopic surgery. Dr. Anderson looks forward to his return to the West Michigan Lakeshore to take advantage of his love of sailing, water sports and outdoors activities.
- Prostate CancerDr. Stork is a general urologist and Assistant Professor at Michigan Medicine West Shore Urology in Muskegon, Michigan. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He practices general urology; however, he has a special interest in treating urinary stone disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia, incontinence, benign and malignant conditions of the kidney, and prostate cancer.
- Carpal Tunnel SyndromeDr. Bowman is a hand specialist who also treats conditions of the wrist and forearm in both children and adults. She treats common soft tissue problems like carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis and trigger finger, as well as fractures, sports injuries, and arthritis. In addition to performing surgery, she provides non-surgical therapies such as injections and bracing while working closely with occupational therapists.

- Thyroid CancerHe has a strong passion for general surgery and provides a full gamut of general surgery care. His special areas of interest are endoscopy, laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair and colorectal disease, as well as breast and thyroid cancer.
- UltrasoundShe is additionally trained in osteopathic manipulative medicine and non-invasive ultrasound guided injections that can enhance healing and recovery. She is also trained in Good Form Running and volunteered at a local running store for their injury clinic during her residency and fellowship.
- RadiologyDr. Shields was born and raised in Muskegon, MI. After graduating from Whitehall High School (2003), he completed his undergraduate education at Central Michigan University (2007) and then attended medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit (2011). His orthopaedic residency training was completed at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY (2016), followed by a fellowship in shoulder and elbow reconstruction at Beaumont Health in Detroit (2017). He returns to the area with his wife, who is a physician specializing in musculoskeletal radiology, and their three children.

- ArthroscopyDr. Shields is committed to advancing orthoaedic knowledge and has published over 20 peer reviewed papers in orthopaedic journals related to shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder replacement, upper extremity trauma, and geriatric fracture care. In addition, he is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, AAOS Shoulder and Elbow Evaluation Committee, and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons society.
- Wound CareHe is passionate about finding better ways to help patients, and that’s why he continues to participate in research efforts to this day. In addition, he is the co-director of wound care at Great Lakes Specialty Hospital and the Mercy Wound Care Center, as well as a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Zonca performs a full spectrum of surgical procedures with special interest in breast augmentation, tummy tucks, and comprehensive facial rejuvenation, including minimally invasive office procedures.

- Hand SurgeryDr. S. Andrei Ostric is board-certified by both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Association of Hand Surgery. After earning his degree in psychology from Knox College in Illinois, Dr. Ostric received his medical degree and did residencies in general surgery, plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery at Rush Medical College in Chicago. From there, he completed a hand and microvascular fellowship at Southern Illinois University. Dr. Ostric focuses on his expertise in plastic and reconstructive surgeries on injuries and disorders of the hand. He and his family reside on the lakeshore.
- Vascular SurgeryDr. Lawrence Mallon is a Michigan native who has practiced in West Michigan for more than 20 years. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan. He’s a board-certified vascular surgeon who was trained at the University of Kentucky, with additional endovascular training at the Arizona Heart Institute. Dr. Mallon is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Vascular Surgery.

Afterward, he completed a fellowship in facial reconstruction at the Royal Free Hospital in London, England and Erasmus University Hospital in the Netherlands.

After attending Wayne State University Medical School, he completed seven years of surgical training in general and plastic surgery at Wake Forest University. During his training, Dr. Zonca won multiple awards for his work with medical research projects.

- Ankle SprainDr. Ringler is one of Michigan’s most experienced orthopaedic trauma surgeons having spent over 15 years caring for patients with fractures and complex injuries. Dr. Ringler received his fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma from the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center, one of the nation’s most prestigious trauma centers. He specializes in the treatment of pelvic & acetabular fractures, periarticular fractures, foot & ankle injuries, and long bone fractures. He also has spent his career concentrating on the treatment of post-traumatic infections and deformity. Dr. Ringler is a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the American Orthopaedic Association. He has been integrally involved in education, training both medical students and orthopaedic residents in the specialty of orthopaedic trauma.
- Podiatric SurgeryDr. Rewitzer has teamed with the Healing the Children program to provide podiatric care to a young man from a the Dominican Republic. He is board certified in foot surgery and serves as a clinical assistant professor with Michigan State University.
