The Department of Public Works is a city department that is operated by the city of Muskegon, Mich. It is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the city s infrastructure, such as streets, highways, bridges, water filtration and distribution facilities, sewage collection and treatment units, street lights, traffic control units, street drains and storm sewers. The department also provides various other services, such as garbage and yard waste collection and recycling. It additionally provides a door-to-door transportation service for senior citizens that allows them to take care of their personal businesses and remain independent. The Department of Public Works operates a maintenance facility and motor pool.
