Mount Vernon Community School District, established in 1956, offers education to students in grades kindergarten through 12. It has an enrollment of more than 1,100 students and consists of elementary, middle and high schools. The district s curriculum includes English, American history, science, social studies, business education, foreign language, mathematics and physical and vocational education. It offers various extracurricular activities to students, including community service, choir, dramatics, music, performing arts, National Honor Society, knowledge bowl and science fairs. The schools operated by the district offers various amenities that include a study hall, library, cafeteria, auditorium, soccer fields and playgrounds. It has an athletic booster club that offer a variety of sports activities, including basketball, bowling, golf, volleyball, baseball, football, track and cheerleading. The district has its administrative office located in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
