Mount Pleasant Waterworks is a publicly owned water and wastewater utility that is governed by a board of commissioners that provides water and wastewater service s to the town of Mount Pleasant and Charleston County, S.C. Its water source is the Middendorf Aquifer, which is a large body of groundwater between 1,800 and 2,000 feet deep underneath Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley counties. Mount Pleasant Waterworks treats the raw water using reverse technology . It purchases supplemental water from the Charleston Water System, which treats surface water collected from rivers and reservoirs. Mount Pleasant Waterworks has a staff of more than 135 people and operates over four water treatment plants and nearly two wastewater treatment facilities. It maintains a location in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
