General Info

Gizelka Andreja David-West, MD, is board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology. She specializes in the surgical and medical management of cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers, as well as complex noncancerous and pre-invasive conditions. As a child, Dr. David-West immigrated with her family from Nigeria to New York City. She decided to become a doctor and "fell in love" with women's health in medical school. She went on to complete a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at NYU Medical Center. "I found myself connecting with cancer patients on such a deep level," she says. "It was so fulfilling. I wanted to give all of myself to them." Dr. David-West joined Northwell Health in 2021, tasked with building out the gynecologic oncology program in Westchester. "We're expanding access to care in Westchester and surrounding counties," she says. "People don't have to travel to the city. They can now get top specialized care, locally." Dr. David-West's patients describe her as an excellent and thoughtful surgeon, and they appreciate how she makes complex details easy to understand.Dr. David-West's surgical expertise, holistic and compassionate care, and commitment to the Westchester community has earned her recognition on several prestigious physician lists, including Castle Connolly Top Doctors and New York Magazine Top Doctors. Outside of work, she's the lead singer of No Evidence of Disease (N.E.D.), a critically acclaimed rock band that performs to raise awareness of gynecologic cancers through music and the arts. "Cancer prevention and awareness are dear to my heart," she says. "We need to go into communities and educate our most vulnerable populations. It's vital that women know their risk factors, recognize the signs and symptoms, and understand the many resources available to them for both prevention and treatment."
