Grandmaster Dong's Martial Arts in Morehead City, NC offers traditional, Korean martial arts instruction for ages four and up in a safe, non-competitive, family atmosphere. Whether you are looking karate for kids, adults or family, we have a program for you. Our school offers many age appropriate classes to meet your needs. Day and evening classes are available along with private classes and seminars.Grandmaster Dongs Martial Arts School in Morehead City is owned by Phillip and Shannon Henry and is one of more than 30 schools in the USA, Australia and Costa Rica teaching Grandmaster Dong's system. Master Phillip Henry is a 5th degree black belt in three styles of Korean Martial Arts, a certified personal trainer and a Youth Exercise Specialist. My son and daughter are excited to take at this school. I had them in another martial arts school that focused on tournaments and classes seemed to focus on fighting (I think they called it sparring). I also found it difficult to see my 7 year old daughter get punched in the head every class. The school's belief was that in order to protect oneself, they need to know what it's like to get hit. Really? Does a police officer have to get shot to know how to defend himself from a gun?Anyway... my kids are much happier at Dong's Karate and I know they are practicing in a safe, controlled environment. They still do "sparring" but it is done in a much safer manner and with less emphasis on beating a classmate. I really feel like they are learning much more here.The school is always neat and clean. Their lobby is awesome and offers cable TV and wireless internet. I would recommend this school to anyone!

I was looking for a place for my son (10) to take karate. He took karate before when we were living somewhere else, but had to quit when we moved here. This school just opened and I stopped by to check it out. The lobby wowed me because every other karate school I've been to is just folding metal chairs along the wall. This place has a separate lobby area with comfortable furniture, flat screen TV, wireless internet, and is as inviting as a living room! I can still watch class through the window into the workout room if I want, but I've enjoyed just being able to read a magazine and drink some coffee (it's hard not to get Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts on the way to class because we pass by both!) while I wait. And I can talk to the other parents without worrying about interrupting class.My son is enjoying the classes and the instructors, a husband and wife. Every night after class he talks about what he learned the entire way home.

My child as been taking class from Dong's Martial Arts for a few weeks and loves it. I can already see a difference in his behavior and his school teachers see it too.
