The Ventura County Sheriff's Department provides law enforcement and crime prevention services. The department operates detention, patrol and support services divisions. It has an emergency services division that responds during earthquakes, floods, fires, tsunamis, terrorist activities, transportation accidents and dam failures. Its records division processes and manages records, clearance reports, and search and arrest warrants. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department responds to emergency and nonemergency calls for service. The department intervenes in cases of theft, homicide, fraud, robbery, serious assault, sex crime and narcotics trafficking. It operates an intelligence unit that conducts investigations, gathers evidence, arrests offenders, and interviews suspects, witnesses and victims. In addition, the department organizes safety-related training programs for the general public. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department maintains a location in Moorpark, Calif.
