Established in 1972, Alabama Coal Association is a nonprofit organization, formed by a group of surface mining companies. Based in Mountain Brook, Ala., it develops and maintains productive relationships with government bodies and agencies to ensure accurate and timely representation of the industry's views on issues which affect it. The organization offers opportunities for educating the association's members according to the current trends of the industry, including new laws, rules and regulations. Alabama Coal Association's list of members includes Birmingham Coal & Coke Co. Inc., Boren Explosives, Cobbs Allen Hall and Haley Bros. Coal Inc., among others.
