Hurd Road Elementary School, located in Monroe, Mich., enrolls more than 400 students in kindergarten through grade four. The teacher to student ratio is 1-to-19. The school prepares students through a flexible education system, which begins their development into well-rounded adults. It enables them to work cooperatively in a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment. Students apply problem-solving strategies learned through written, oral, technological and experiential applications in the classroom. The subjects cover core curricular areas, including English, mathematics, science, health and physical education, computers, music and art. It also has a self-contained special education unit for students with special needs. Hurd Road Elementary School encourages all students to participate in extracurricular activities, including various sports, such as basketball, volleyball and football.
